"Mom's spaghetti sauce recipe, passed down from her mother. A staple recipe. Add an extra 1/2 pound ground beef for a meatier sauce."
Ingredients
1 lbs ground beef
1 large onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
1 green pepper, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 16 oz cans crushed tomatoes
6 oz can tomato paste
2 tsp brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried thyme
1 bayleaf
2 cups water (only use full two cups if simmering for full time)
Directions
1) Cook ground beef, onion, pepper and garlic until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain fat.
2) Stir in tomatoes, paste, sugar, spices, and bay leaf.
3) Stir in water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
4) Serve hot over noodles.
Note: If unable to simmer full amount of time or are using a slow cooker, decrease the amount of water to 1 cup or no water if simmering less than 30 minutes.
